Will Charlton is a current sophomore at the University of Illinois from the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge who studies journalism and has a specialization in applied health. Will has professional aspirations of being a play-by-play announcer or a sports anchor. He recently got hired to become an anchor for Illini Sports Night starting this spring semester along with being a reporter on the show for ones he will not anchor for. Prior to becoming an anchor, Will worked on the production side of the show during the previous fall semester. Currently for work, Will is involved with Fighting Illini Productions, where he works on the production side of Illini sports events. He also is an announcer through Big Ten Student U on the network Big Ten Plus, where to the date he has announced women’s volleyball as color commentator and women’s basketball as play-by-play announcer and color commentator. Through doing that, he has worked with handfuls of student information directors from other schools and UIUC. Will also plans on starting to write for the Daily Illini in sports this semester. His broadcasting experience thus far dates back to his sophomore year in high school too, where he started off doing sideline reporting, which eventually became doing play-by-play announcing and color commentating for high school football and basketball. He’s also a huge sports fan, especially when it comes to Fighting Illini basketball. When he is not working a game, he is a proud member of the “Orange Krush” student section. His hobbies include working out, watching sports, and being with his friends. He also really enjoys participating in intramural sports, especially flag football, basketball, and bowling.
