Illinois pitcher, Taylor Edwards, could add another line to a long list of achievements she has accomplishments during her time at Illinois: the senior standout was nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award on Tuesday.
Edwards finished the shortened 2020 season with a 5-10 record in 29 starts and posted a 5.30 ERA. Not only did Edwards excel on the field, but also in the classroom. In her junior season, Edwards was named NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-Big ten, and the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award.
Edwards didn’t just end her career on the softball diamond, she also joined the Women’s basketball team for her final year of eligibility.
Edwards joined a list of 605 women nominated for this year’s award, a record number of nominees. Schools nominated athletes based on their athletic achievement, service and leadership.
The finalists will be named in the fall.
