A local businesswoman, Laura Kalman, bought the former News-Gazette building for nearly $1.2 million dollars.
Kalman is a University of Illinois graduate who received a degree in Electrical Engineering. She is the founder and board member of CS+X foundation and president and CEO of Studio Helix, a health and wellness center, according to her LinkedIn.
She has not released any information on what she plans to do with the building.
In mid-August, an auction took place to sell the building and the hundreds of items inside of it, with the initial bid set at $900,000. The proceeds from the auction will be used to pay back News-Gazette Inc.’s creditors, according to what the paper’s previous publisher, John Reed.
The paper had been housed in its prior Main Street location since 1984 and moved to offices on Devonshire Drive in April of this year.
