Illinois Women’s Basketball: Eva Rubin receives transfer waiver to play

In the midst of uncertainty, the Illini women’s basketball program received good news Wednesday. Junior center, Eva Rubin, received an eligibility waiver from the NCAA to take classes at the University and join the basketball team this winter for the 2020-2021 season. After transferring to Illinois last spring, Rubin sat out the semester as she awaited her fate.

UI Athletics says head coach Nancy Fahey is excited for Rubin and looks forward to seeing her game develop over the next year, as she has two years of eligibility remaining.

“We’re pleased with this decision and thrilled for Eva that she will be able to benefit from the continuity of a full 2020-21 season,” Fahey said. “She was able to acclimate to our program while sitting out during the spring and is now prepared to make her return to the court and contribute. Eva will strengthen our front-court with her size and presence in the post, and also will impact her teammates with her maturity and experience competing at this level.”

Rubin arrives in Champaign after appearing in 22 games over two seasons with Arizona State. The Sun Devils have made back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament, advancing to the Round of 32 in 2018, and Sweet 16 in 2019.

UI7 Live and Illini Sports Night will have more as the story develops.
