After several weeks of patiently waiting, the Big Ten has finally settled on a shortened 10-game schedule, which for Illinois football, is set to take place Thursday, Sept. 3 in a night cap home opener against defending conference champion, Ohio State.
Previously, the Illini were set to open the season with three non-conference games against Illinois State, UConn, and Bowling Green. The team still gets the benefit of opening up the season with a night game, but against a much tougher opponent.
The Big Ten Championship is set for its traditional site of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana on Dec. 5. However, it could be moved to as late as Dec. 19 if the pandemic gets progressively worse.
The full Fighting Illini schedule can be viewed below, as times are still to be determined. One notable change is that along with keeping the Ohio State tilt, the Illini added Penn State as a second conference crossover opponent to conclude the season.
Week 1: Ohio State (Thursday, Sept. 3)
Week 2: @ Nebraska (Saturday, Sept. 12)
Week 3: @ Indiana (Saturday, Sept. 19)
Week 4: Purdue (Saturday, Sept. 26)
