Illinois Basketball. Kofi Cockburn to rejoin Illini for sophomore season

By Zain Bando

Sophomore center Kofi Cockburn finally ended his long-awaited hold out Saturday, announcing on Instagram and Twitter that he would be returning for the 2020 season.

Cockburn joins fellow teammate, Ayo Dosunmu, who decided to remove his name from NBA Draft consideration Friday night, opening the door for the big man’s return.

According to his ESPN profile, Cockburn had a solid freshman campaign, averaging 13.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while maintaining a 53.2 field goal percentage. It’s safe to say that Cockburn will be a huge piece to a potential championship puzzle for the Orange and Blue, as the team finished with 21 wins last season.

UI7 and Illini Sports Night will continue to provide updates as the story continues to develop.
