Illinois Basketball: Ayo Dosunmu withdraws from NBA Draft, returns to Illini

By Zain Bando

The wait is over. Junior guard Ayo Dosunmu has officially announced his return to the Illinois basketball team for his third season, withdrawing from the 2020 NBA Draft.

In a video posted to Twitter and Instagram on his official accounts, Dosunmu is seen shooting baskets at a park in Chicago, ending with the words “year three.”

Dosunmu returns to an Illini team that looks to contend for a Big Ten title and tournament berth in 2021, as teammate Kofi Cockburn’s future is currently unknown. If the tandem reunites, the team expects a ranking in the top 25 and a lot of hype upon the beginning of the 2020 season. The Morgan Park alum began a rebuild that saw the team improve from 12 to 21 wins in just one season, along with a share of second place in the Big Ten.

The future looks bright for the Orange and Blue, as UI 7 and Illini Sports Night will have more as the story continues to develop.
