Women’s head basketball coach Nancy Fahey continues to add experience and success to her coaching staff, as it was announced Tuesday that Vernette Skeete is leaving Marquette to joing the Illinois staff.
The move comes just three weeks after Fahey swayed Scott Merrit to join the Illini, and he too came from Marquette.
Fahey’s motives here are clear, Marquette is a good program to steal from. Both coaches had a key role in four consecutive 20-win seasons, three tournament berths and two championship titles in the Big East.
Adding Skeete means Tianna Kirkland will now be moving into a role that has her focused on recruiting and director of student-athlete development.
Although the results still haven’t shown up for women’s basketball at Illinois, steps are being taken to continue the progression Fahey has started. Putting together a coaching staff with a track record of success is a good start. Now it just needs to translate to the court.
