City of Urbana launches housing assistance program

By Connor Ciecko

In an effort to help reduce the financial hardships many people are facing due to the COVID-19 shutdown nationwide, the City of Urbana has announced a Housing Assistance Program to help community members pay for their rent, mortgage, or utility bills.

“Everyone should feel secure in their home, and we’re happy to help with that,” said Sheila Dodd, manager of the Grants Management Division.

The program is intended to provide three months of support to community members who were unable to get partial or complete funding from other emergency funds. The maximum of $750 per month will be paid directly to the companies or individuals that the resident owes to.
