Brad Zimmerman is a senior majoring in Journalism with minors in Business and Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Zimmerman started his journalism career as a writer for his middle and high school newspapers, writing about a variety of topics that included news, sports and lifestyle. Since then, Zimmerman has spent the last two years working as a content creator and crew member for Good Morning Illini and Illini Sports Night. This is his first semester working on UI7 Live. In addition, Zimmerman writes for The Daily Illini as a sports writer covering the men’s gymanstics team.
Zimmerman grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and is a fan of Chicago sports teams including the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls. While he didn’t grow up a diehard Illini fan, he certainly is now. He loves attending Illini sporting events (when fans were permitted) and some of his best memories from college were made at Illini sporting events. He cites the volleyball team’s Final Four run in 2018, the football team’s upset of Wisconsin and its comeback against Michigan State in 2019, and the men’s basketball team’s recent success as his favorite Illini sports events from recent history. Zimmerman also enjoys collecting Illini memorabilia like posters, bobbleheads, foam fingers, and Orange Krush newspapers.
Zimmerman is excited to expand his involvement with UI7 this semester as a reporter and producer for UI7 Live and as on-camera talent for GMI and ISN. He hopes to use his experiences this semester as jumping-off point to a career in sports reporting.
